Teaching

My teaching has included rhetorical history, rhetorical theory, rhetorical criticism, aesthetics, and the philosophy of communincation. As a teacher, I tend to focus on "big ideas" and try to stress for students the ways in which the world we live in is very much the product of a history.

Courses in the fall of 07 were Rhetoric and Communication (Spcm 199) and Rhetoric and Aesthetics (Spcm 532, a graduate seminar). Courses in the fall of 08 are Philosophy of Communication (Spcm 199) and The Rhetorical Tradition (Spcm 310).

In the Spring of 09 I'll be teaching a course "Lincoln's Legacies," celebrating Lincoln on the occassion of his bicentennial by studying his legacies in American political culture.
