The Academic Advising Office in Communication welcomes students interested in learning about educational and career opportunities in Communication. Our friendly advisors serve all Communication majors and minors in their academic planning, career and graduate school searches, and in finding academic and career resources across the campus and community. We also assist students interested in transferring into the major, double majoring or minoring in Communication, and learning more about the field of Communication.

Communication Programs:

List serve: The Academic Advising office maintains a list serve of all Communication majors to inform students of upcoming departmental events and career and internship opportunities.

Internships:The Department of Communication offers credit for two different types of internships. CMN 204 is a teaching internship in which a student assists a CMN instructor. Students must have junior or senior stanading, have at least a 3.5 GPA in the major and a 3.0 cumulative GPA and the endorsement of an instructor for the course in which you wish to intern. We also encourage our students to intern for various for-profit and non-for-profit businesses and governmental offices. For more information, contact the Internship Office at

Communication Leaders: Communication Leaders are outstanding undergraduate Communication majors who act as ambassadors for the department. Communication Leaders work closely with faculty on new initiatives designed to help the department offer a high-quality education to our students. Undergraduate students who have a 3.25 G.P.A. in the major are encouraged to apply. First-year students with an ACT score of 28 or higher are also encouraged to apply.

Speak at Graduation: We invite Communication majors to audition to speak at the Department of Communication's graduation in May. Information about this opportunity is posted at the beginning of spring semester.
